After obtaining his degree in electrical engineering and computer science and a few years of work experience in plant engineering and customer service, Emil Gantenbein wanted to get to know the world. He spent ten years in Brazil, building up a team to open up the Latin American markets. Today, the 45 year-old manages 65 employees at company headquarters in Uzwil, as the Automation Department Manager in the Grain Milling division. “I wanted to work abroad and for this reason, I was looking for an employer with an international presence. Buhler offered interesting and innovative facilities as well as a gateway for travel to foreign countries and different cultures”, recalls Emil Gantenbein of his entry to Buhler in 1991 as a programmer in the Automation department. Shortly thereafter, his job presented him with travel opportunities, for the purpose of setting up operations in Mexico, Japan and Hungary. “For a young professional such as myself, this was an ideal opportunity to further understand the needs of our customers”. The customers’ high expectations and the high regard he was met with as a Buhler representative at a relatively young age count among the experiences which had a strong effect on him at the start of his career.

“From the very start, my job has been exciting”, says the now 45 year-old. “I’ve interacted with people from all walks of life, from co-workers to production managers to owners. This taught me very quickly how to assert myself while also building up a broad range of experiences. For a young professional such as myself, working abroad was an ideal stepping stone to further my career”.

In 1993 Emil Gantenbein was assigned as team leader of twelve employees. At the end of 1997 he was promoted to Automation Manager and moved with his family to Brazil, where he would build up a new team for Latin America. For ten years he worked on this assignment, to a very successful completion.

Since May 2008, Emil Gantenbein has been working again at company headquarters in Uzwil. There he has taken over the position of managing the Grain Milling business unit’s Automation department, which consists of 65 employees. In his leadership function he has a direct influence on the development of the automation services, and in this way he is able to make a significant contribution to the overall success of the company.
