Eliana Zamprogna (age 35), Research & Development Manager Grain Processing at company headquarters in Uzwil, Switzerland
“The time is right for the development of new, more refined and optimized methods for the processing of staple foods”, says Eliana Zamprogna. She bases this on the fact that we now have a better understanding of the materials and their physical and chemical properties. The 35 year-old welcomes this challenge eagerly.Eliana Zamprogna comes from Padua, Italy. She completed a portion of her studies in chemical engineering in the USA. Through one of her professors she found out that Buhler had an opening for a Project Manager of Corporate Technology. “The opportunity to have a job where I could put my academic background to practical use was very attractive to me”, recalls Mrs. Zamprogna of her first visit to Switzerland. “Already after my first interview, I was quite taken by Uzwil’s pastoral, natural setting and the friendly, open atmosphere at Buhler”.
After one and a half years, the engineer joined the Grain Processing Research and Development department, where she presently coordinates all R & D activities within the division. “The job is very diverse, and includes the wheat milling industry, animal feed and even beer brewing”, she says. She finds it very rewarding to be able to identify the collective synergies of the overall development processes and to make a significant contribution to the optimization of existing operations. She sees her job as a gateway between the academic world and the practical needs of the food industry. She feels that the company’s overall success is dependent on being able to secure the talents of gifted and well-educated employees. For this reason she also sees herself as something of a “managerial groomer”: she offers young graduates across the world the opportunity to start their careers at Buhler, for example as a place to complete their final thesis.
