Manuel Callegari (age 30), Team Manager Application Technology, Business Unit Die Casting at company headquarters in Uzwil, Switzerland
Callegari completed his engineering degree in record time. When his professor told him about an opening for Process Engineer at Buhler in Switzerland, the Italian didn’t hesitate for long. In April 2005 he interviewed with the company and knew: “This is where I want to work”. Buhler’s high standards of quality were what convinced him.Shortly thereafter, Manuel Callegari packed his bags and moved to Switzerland. “My training period went very smoothly. My predecessor made sure I knew the ropes and I was given a training program, I was able to attend many courses related to die casting and very quickly also established customer contacts”, he recalls. “Although I couldn’t yet speak German, I was accepted right from the start”. Meanwhile, he attended the company’s German and English classes, and in very short order he was able to communicate well in both languages and meet with customers by himself. Since then, he has also taken on a postgraduate course of studies in Business Administration.
Callegari derives a sense of achievement from being able to take a share of responsibility for large projects and have in-depth discussions with his customers about their needs and wants. In his personnel performance review he told his boss that his medium-term goal was to get into management. He has already completed his first steps in that direction: Callegari is currently a Team Manager for Application Technology – in the same division business unit where he first started his career with Buhler as a Process Engineer.
