Angela Schwab (age 38), Designer at Buhler headquarters in Uzwil, Switzerland
Two kids and also a job. It’s not always easy for parents to manage a healthy balance without compromising their careers. When Angela Schwab started working at Buhler in 2004, she didn’t want to drop any balls either. Because the technical designer had done her apprenticeship elsewhere, her familiarity with Buhler was due mainly because of her classmates at the school. “More than half of my former classmates completed their apprenticeships at Buhler. They were always a step ahead”, recalls Mrs. Schwab. The skills of those colleagues, as well as the company’s size and the opportunities to be had convinced the mother of two to make the switch to Buhler.
Nowadays the 38 year-old works on a 60 percent schedule in the technology department of the Grain Milling division. She especially enjoys drawing diagrams, observing technical procedures and being able to see an assignment through from beginning to end. As long as Angela Schwab is still parenting her ten and thirteen year-old children, her current job is ideal. “I enjoy my job”, she says. Of course, she’s also looking into the future. At some point she intends to increase her 60 percent workload. Additionally, she will also be able to use the continuing education courses she’s done to expand the scope of her job duties. “I’m confident that the Grain Milling division will continue to run smoothly” is Angela Schwab’s conviction.
