PET crystallisation and drying systems

Based upon extensive experience in the crystallization and drying of a wide variety of bulk products, Buhler systems are designed for continuous thermal treatment of fluidizable flakes, granular materials and powders. They are suitable for adhesive, non-adhesive, powdery or crystalline materials (which becomes free-flowing after treatment), as well as fibrous and bulky materials. One important field of application is the treatment of oxygen-sensitive plastic pellets by means of inert gas (e.g. nitrogen) up to a temperature of 250 °C.

Designed specifically for the stringent requirements placed on the processing of microfilaments, Buhler systems more than succeed in reaching the low moisture contents required for POY (Partially-Oriented Yarn) and FDY (Fully-Drawn Yarn) products.

Key Features

Process performance

  • Unique non-agitated process with robust equipment.
  • Very gentle handling of materials, no dust generation and therefore no production loss.

Process Description

The system is based on the two separate process steps crystallization and subsequent drying. PET pellets are brought through their amorphous sticky stage in the crystallizer by being back-mixed with previously crystallized pellets in a fluidized bed at elevated temperatures..
