On February 10, 1860, Adolf Bühler establishes his cast iron foundry with two employees. First year total foundry output: 23 tons of iron castings.
Dr. René Bühler takes over as Chief Executive Officer in 1934.
MIAG, Mühlenbau und Industrie GmbH, Braunschweig, Germany is acquired in 1972. MIAG was one of Bühler’s biggest competitors. After the acquisition, investment efforts and productivity increase dramatically resulting in sales of DM 250 million in 1988, rising to DM 360 million in 1991.
Urs Bühler is appointed Chief Executive Officer of Bühler in 1986.
Acquisition of Sortex Ltd., London, UK 1994. Sortex was the world’s leading manufacturer of optical sorting equipment. For Bühler, the acquisition marks a step toward the expansion of its Advanced Materials business in the area of equipment for manufacturing of functional layers.
Acquisition of Leybold Optics, Alzenau, Germany. Bühler acquires Leybold Optics, the world’s leading provider of production systems for vacuum deposition of functional layers.

The African Milling School in Nairobi, Kenya is established. Bühler opens the African Milling School to offer professional training for the next generation of millers in Africa and the Middle East. In total, over 1,000 students have graduated from the African Milling School.
Bühler expands its investment and acquisition capabilities by issuing a dual-tranche bond. The bond enables the company to accelerate its growth plan and to invest further in the modernization of the production and logistics facilities in Uzwil, and to build an innovation campus.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Bühler holds a fully virtual trade fair. Bühler transforms its physical Interpack program into a digital experience. Over three days, more than 12,000 people form 132 countries visit the digital platform, and around 500 private meetings take place.

The Grain Innovation Center commences operation. Bühler invests in the creation of a new Grain Innovation Center in Uzwil to enable the development of innovative and sustainable solutions in grain and feed processing.
