In Two Track Malting’s distinctive approach to agriculture and production, the grains are cultivated on family farms in North Dakota, ensuring quality and sustainability. Once harvested, these grains are expertly processed in a new, state-of-the-art malting facility to deliver the best products possible. Two Track Malting takes pride in selling and shipping directly from their malthouse to breweries and distilleries. They maintain ownership from the moment the grain is planted until it arrives at the destination, a process they call Field to Pint™ and Field to Spirit™.
Bismarck, North Dakota. 150 million years ago, the North American Great Plains was covered by a massive inland sea. When the sea receded, rich grasslands emerged, creating an ideal environment for barley cultivation. Today, North Dakota, on the eastern edge of the Great Plains, produces over a quarter of the barley grown in the US, and much of it is malted by Two Track Malting in Bismarck a partnership between Arrow K Farms near Belfield and Stober Farms in Goodrich.
Field to pint, field to spirit
Two Track‘s core philosophies, “Field to Pint“ and “Field to Spirit,“ emphasize the production of brewing and distilling products entirely in-house – from development to harvesting to malting. This unique approach quickly built a loyal customer base, and as Two Track‘s grain portfolio has grown so has the demand for their malt. To expand capacity, they needed flexible and sustainable malting solutions, which is why they chose Bühler’s RimoMalt.
The new RimoMalt facility will increase their output from 700,000 to more than 4,000,000 pounds annually, and its modular design allows for even further expansion and adaptation according to their changing production needs. The facility’s advanced machinery ensures optimal aeration during germination and allows for independent operation of each Germinating and Kilning Unit (GKU), enabling the production of different recipes simultaneously. For Two Track, the RimoMalt and their partnership with Bühler are absolutely key to reaching the next level and achieving continued success.
