When I started working at Bühler a decade ago, something that became clear to me very quickly is the great purpose behind what we do. Everywhere I went I could feel this energy that I still carry with me today. Since the beginning, it was an integral part of my job to visit customer sites to understand our customers’ needs and contribute to the development of engineering projects as well as Bühler locations in other countries for training purposes. My very first trip took me to Brazil. I learned a lot about our customers there and got to experience the Brazilian culture and food.
Tasting the food of a country I visit is very important to me, so I was very excited when a later trip would take me to India, which has a very different style of cooking compared to South America.
Our group stayed in India for two months to learn about rice processing. Besides that, we also had the chance to do some sightseeing and learn about India’s culture. Of course, I also tried lots of Indian food but quickly learned that it was way too spicy for me. I had to take it slow and build up my spice tolerance first so I could enjoy all the traditional dishes by the end of the trip. During that time my English wasn’t very strong yet, which was, however, not a problem at all since everywhere we went the people were very welcoming and took their time with us.
Being able to work for a company that has such a broad impact on people’s lives inspires me every day.

Back home in Columbia I had the opportunity to work with various milling customers across South America including projects in Brazil, Argentine, Paraguay and Venezuela. I also got the opportunity to work on a pet food project for a customer in Peru. In Columbia itself I also work for rice customers now, which is very exciting since rice is a growing market here. Being able to work for a company that has such a broad impact on people’s lives inspires me every day and Bühler has been giving back by providing unique opportunities to me as well.
